Catering Cling Film, Foil and Parchment: Widths, Rolls and Dispensers
The DiscountTillRolls.ie TeamMost commercial kitchens use cling film, foil and baking parchment in two widths: 30cm (about 12 inches) for everyday wrapping, and 45cm (about 18 inches) for trays, gastronorms and large dishes. Catering rolls are much longer than retail rolls, often 300m for cling film. A dispenser system like Wrapmaster cuts cleanly and safely, and the refill cartridges slot straight in, so there is less waste and fewer tangled rolls.
Here is how to pick the width, the roll and the dispenser.

30cm or 45cm?
| Width | Best for |
|---|---|
| 30cm (12") | Bowls, small containers, sandwiches, portions |
| 45cm (18") | Gastronorm trays, baking trays, large platters |
Many kitchens keep both: a 30cm roll at the prep station and a 45cm roll near the pass or the walk-in.
Long catering rolls for bowls, portions and prep.
Which rolls do you stock?

Wide, strong foil for trays and ovens.
Is a Wrapmaster dispenser worth it?
Wrapmaster dispensers hold a refill cartridge and cut with a built-in blade, so film does not cling to itself or tangle. Many kitchens find they use less film, and staff are not handling a loose blade.

Cling film, foil or parchment?
- Cling film: covering bowls and containers in the fridge, wrapping portions. Not for use in the oven.
- Foil: covering trays in the oven, wrapping hot food, lining grills. Avoid long contact with very acidic or salty food.
- Baking parchment: lining baking trays and tins, since it resists sticking at oven temperatures.
- Greaseproof paper: wrapping and serving, not usually for baking. See the greaseproof paper guide.
Label wrapped food with the date. See our day dots guide for food rotation, and the foil container sizes guide for trays with lids.
