PAX Terminal Paper Rolls: Which Roll Does Your PAX Take?

Almost every PAX card terminal takes a 57x40mm thermal roll. That covers the A920 and A920 Pro, A80, A910, A930, S80, S800, S90, S900, S910, S920, S500, D210 and Q80. The one exception in our range is the PAX E600, which takes a slightly larger 57x45mm roll. PAX terminals are thermal, so they need no ink or ribbon.

What roll size does each PAX terminal take?

Prices are per box of 50 rolls, ex VAT. Any good 57x40mm card roll fits the 57x40mm models, so if you run several PAX terminals you only need one box on the shelf.

How do I check which PAX model I have?

• Look at the front or the back of the terminal. PAX prints the model name, such as A920 or S80, on the casing or on a label underneath.
• Check the terminal settings. On Android PAX models the model number is usually in the device information screen.
• Ask your payment provider. Banks and providers in Ireland rebadge PAX terminals under their own names, so the provider's name on the screen is not always the model. Your provider's paperwork will list it.
• Measure the old roll. 57mm wide and about 40mm across the full roll means 57x40mm.

How do I load a roll in a PAX terminal?

1. Open the paper cover. It is usually a latch or lid on the top or back of the terminal.
2. Drop the roll in so the paper feeds from underneath, with the loose end coming towards you.
3. Pull a few centimetres of paper out past the edge.
4. Close the lid firmly until it clicks, then tear off the excess.

If the receipt comes out blank, the roll is in backwards. Thermal paper only prints on one side, so flip it and try again. There is a step-by-step walkthrough in how to put a roll in a card machine.

Why is the PAX E600 different?

The E600 is an EPOS-style countertop unit with a larger paper compartment, and it takes a 57x45mm roll. A 57x40mm roll will physically fit but runs out sooner, and a larger roll will not close. Order the size made for it.

How many rolls does a PAX terminal get through?

A 57x40mm roll holds roughly 16 metres of paper, which is usually around 100 card receipts. If your terminal prints both a merchant and a customer copy, that is about 50 sales per roll. A box of 50 rolls lasts most small shops and cafés a couple of months. Our receipts per roll guide has the full maths.

Do all PAX terminals use the same roll?

Nearly all do. The A920, A80, A910, A930, S80, S800, S90, S900, S910, S920, S500, D210 and Q80 use 57x40mm. The PAX E600 uses 57x45mm.

Do PAX terminals need ink?

No. PAX terminals print on thermal paper, which needs no ink or ribbon.

Why is my PAX printing blank receipts?

The roll is usually in the wrong way round. Thermal paper only prints on one side, so turn the roll over and reload it.

Can I use generic 57x40mm rolls in a PAX?

Yes. Any good quality 57x40mm thermal roll fits the 57x40mm PAX models. Poor quality paper can leave dust that wears the print head, so buy from a supplier you trust.
