Price Gun Labels: Sizes, Colours and Which Labels Fit Your Gun
The DiscountTillRolls.ie TeamMost handheld price guns in Ireland take one of two label sizes: 26x12mm for a single line gun, or 26x16mm for a double line gun. The label must match your gun exactly, because the size is built into the feed mechanism. After size, you choose the glue (permanent, or peelable for goods that get repriced) and the colour (white for everyday pricing, fluorescent orange or other colours for offers and clearance).
If you are not sure which gun you have, count the rows of number bands on the print head. One row means single line. Two rows means double line.

What size price gun labels do I need?

A few guns use larger formats, but these two sizes cover the vast majority of Irish shops. The quickest check is the old roll: the size is usually printed on the box, and the width of the backing strip tells you straight away.
One word of caution: labels are made for a gun's feed pitch, so buy labels that list your gun as compatible. Ours are made for the PUMA PJ range and the common single and double line guns.

Should I use permanent or peelable labels?
- Permanent labels are hard to remove in one piece. They are the default for most retail, and they discourage customers from swapping labels between items.
- Peelable (removable) labels lift off cleanly without leaving sticky residue. Use them on gifts, books, glass, crockery, or anything you reprice often.
- Freezer labels use a glue that still sticks at low temperatures. Standard glue can fall off frozen packs.
If you sell gifts and everyday goods, it is common to keep a box of each and switch rolls as needed.
Should I use white or coloured price labels?
White is the everyday choice: clean, easy to read, and it suits most packaging. Coloured labels do a different job. Fluorescent orange, red or yellow grab attention on promotions, clearance lines and short-dated stock, and they let staff see at a glance which items are reduced.
A simple system many shops use: white for normal prices, orange for offers. It costs nothing extra and customers learn it quickly.

How do I load a new roll of price gun labels?
- Open the label chamber. On most guns the side cover or the top of the handle swings open.
- Seat the roll. Drop the roll onto the spindle so the labels feed from the bottom, facing out.
- Peel the first few labels off the backing so you have a bare strip to thread.
- Thread the backing strip under the print head and around the feed wheel, following the arrows moulded into the gun.
- Close the chamber and squeeze a few times until a label appears under the applicator roller.
Set the price on the number bands before you start, and do a test label on the back of your hand or a scrap of card.
Why is my price gun jamming or printing faint?
- Jamming: usually the wrong label size, or the backing threaded the wrong way. Check the roll against the gun and re-thread along the arrows.
- Labels not peeling off the backing: the strip is not wrapped tightly around the peel edge. Re-thread it tight.
- Faint or patchy print: the ink roller is dry. Rollers wear out and are cheap to replace.
- Smudged print: a new roller can be over-inked for the first few labels. Fire off a handful and it settles.
