How Much Do Till Rolls Cost in Ireland? Box, Bulk and Pallet Prices Explained

In Ireland, a card machine roll costs about 56 cent and an 80mm receipt roll costs about €1, before VAT, when you buy by the box. A box of 50 57x40mm credit card rolls is €27.75 ex VAT (€34.13 incl. VAT). A box of 20 80x70mm thermal till rolls is €19.99 ex VAT (€24.59 incl. VAT). Buying 10 or more boxes, or a pallet, brings the price per roll down further.

Why compare cost per roll, not box price?

Because boxes are not the same size. A box of card rolls usually holds 50. A box of 80mm receipt rolls usually holds 20. Some suppliers sell 40 or even 10 to a box. Comparing a €20 box with a €28 box tells you nothing until you divide by the number of rolls inside.

Here is the quick way to compare any two quotes:

1. Check both prices are ex VAT or both incl. VAT. Mixing them makes one supplier look 23% cheaper than it is.
2. Divide the box price by the rolls in the box. That is your true cost per roll.
3. Add delivery. A cheap box with a €7 delivery charge on a small order is not cheap. Our till rolls ship free across Ireland.
4. Check the paper grade. A roll that is shorter, thinner or dustier is not the same product, even at the same width and diameter.

How much will I spend on till rolls in a year?

Take the number of rolls you get through in a week, multiply by 52, then by the cost per roll. Two typical examples:

• A café card machine using 3 rolls a week. That is 156 rolls a year, just over 3 boxes of 57x40. Roughly €87 ex VAT for the whole year.
• A busy restaurant receipt printer using 3 rolls a day. That is around 1,090 rolls a year, or about 55 boxes of 80x70. Roughly €1,090 ex VAT at single-box prices, which is exactly the point where bulk pricing starts to matter.

Most businesses guess low. Check how many boxes you actually bought last year before you plan the next one.

There are three price levels, and which one suits you depends on how fast you go through rolls and how much storage you have.

Are cheap till rolls a false economy?

Sometimes, yes. The cheapest box on the internet can cost you more once it is in the machine. Watch out for:

• Shorter rolls. A roll can look the same diameter but have less paper on it, using a bigger core or thicker paper. You change it more often and get fewer receipts per euro.
• Dusty, low-grade paper. Poor coating sheds dust into the print head. Over time that means faint prints, streaks and a repair bill.
• Fast fading. A receipt a customer brings back for a refund needs to still be readable. Our card rolls are rated for 7 years of image stability when stored properly.
• Delivery charges. A low price with a delivery fee on top often costs more than a slightly higher price delivered free.

The honest answer is to compare cost per roll between suppliers selling the same grade of paper. If one price is far below everyone else, ask why.
