Receipt Rolls for Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats: Which Size Does Your Order Printer Take?

Delivery app order printers take one of three roll sizes. The most common is 80x40mm, for the wider Sunmi V2s Plus and V3 handhelds used by most Just Eat restaurants and many Deliveroo ones. The smaller Sunmi V2 and V2 Pro handhelds take 57x40mm, the same size as most card machines. Countertop receipt printers connected to a Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats tablet, such as the Epson TM-T20, TM-M30 and Star TSP143, take 80x70mm.

Uber Eats usually runs on a tablet on its own. If you have added a printer to it, it will almost always be an 80mm Epson or Star model from the table above.

Busy kitchen? Many 80mm counter printers also take a bigger 80x80mm 80gsm roll, which means fewer roll changes during service. Check your printer's roll housing or manual before switching.

How do I check which printer I have?

1. Is it handheld or on the counter? Handheld devices have a printer built in. Separate counter printers take 80x70mm.
2. If it is handheld, open the paper cover. A wide slot, about the width of a standard till roll, takes 80x40mm. A narrow slot, about the width of a card machine roll, takes 57x40mm.
3. Read the label. The make and model (for example "V2s Plus", "TM-T20III" or "TSP143") is on a sticker on the back, underneath or under the battery cover.
4. Measure the old roll. Width across the paper will be 57mm or 80mm. That tells you straight away. Our till roll size chart shows how in two minutes.

If the app provider sent the printer out to you, their welcome pack or the box it came in usually names the model too. If you switch paper width on a Sunmi, check the paper setting in the device's printer settings so dockets print centred.

Is it the same roll as my card machine?

If your order printer is a smaller 57x40mm handheld like the Sunmi V2 or V2 Pro, yes. Most card machines also take 57x40mm, so one box can cover both. That keeps things simple behind the counter.

If it is an 80mm handheld like the V2s Plus or V3, or a counter printer, no. Those need the wider 80x40mm or 80x70mm roll, which will not fit your card terminal. The full list of terminals is in what roll your card machine takes.

How do I avoid running out on a busy night?

Friday and Saturday evenings are when delivery printers work hardest, and a dead printer means missed orders and unhappy drivers. A few habits help:

• Keep a full box on site, not just a few loose rolls. Reorder when you open the last box, not when you use the last roll.
• Watch for the coloured end stripe. Most rolls have a warning stripe near the end. When staff see it, they should have a new roll ready.
• Keep rolls away from the fryer and pass lights. Heat darkens thermal paper before it is even printed.
