POS System Supplies for Retailers: Essential Checklist
Bernard ColganLast updated: 9 October 2026
A shop's POS supplies come down to five things: the right till rolls for your printer, the right rolls for your card machine, labels for shelves and stock, a plan for when the printer acts up, and enough stock that you never run out on a busy Saturday.
Here's each one in a line or two, with the full guide if you want to go deeper.
Which till rolls does my till take?
Measure the roll you have now: width x diameter in mm. Most modern EPOS printers take 80mm wide rolls. If you're not sure, our till roll size chart covers every common till in Ireland.
For a busy counter, the 80x70mm thermal till rolls are the everyday choice at €19.99 + VAT for a box of 20. Not sure if your printer takes thermal or bond? Try the fingernail test.

Which rolls does my card machine take?
Most card machines in Ireland take 57mm wide rolls, but the diameter changes from model to model. Check yours before ordering:
- Verifone paper rolls
- Clover roll sizes: Flex, Mini, Mobile and Station
- Nexgo, Castles, Spire and Poynt rolls
- Why 57x40mm is Ireland's most popular size
Do I need BPA-free or phenol-free rolls?
All our thermal rolls are BPA-free. Phenol-free is a separate range and costs more. The difference between the two is explained in Is Receipt Paper BPA-Free in Ireland?
Which receipts need to last?
Revenue expects business records to be kept for six years. More on that in how long to keep receipts in Ireland.
Standard thermal receipts can fade well before then. If you keep paper copies, the 80x80 80gsm long life rolls are rated for 10-year fade resistance, at €36.99 + VAT for 20 rolls.

What labels does a shop need?
Usually three kinds: shelf edge labels for prices, barcode labels for stock, and price gun labels for quick pricing on the shop floor.
- Shelf edge and price labels for shops
- Barcode labels: sizes and printers
- Zebra label sizes
- Price gun labels
How many rolls should I keep in stock?
Work out what you use in a month, then stay a few weeks ahead so a busy weekend never catches you out. These two do the maths for you:
- How many till rolls does my business need each month?
- How many receipts do you get from a till roll?
Buying bigger? See buying by the pallet. Or set up auto-ship and stop thinking about it.
What if the receipt printer goes down?
Most printer problems are paper jams or a dirty print head, and both are quick fixes:

Frequently Asked Questions
What supplies does a retailer need for a POS system?
Every retail POS setup needs thermal receipt paper (till rolls), barcode labels for products, and a thermal printer. You'll also want spare rolls in stock, label stock for pricing and inventory, and potentially credit card terminal paper if you process card payments. Discount Till Rolls supplies all of these from our Dublin warehouse with next-day delivery across Ireland. Start with a stock of 80x70mm thermal rolls, matching barcode labels for your product range, and PDQ rolls if you use card terminals.
Which receipt rolls fit my POS printer?
The most common size in Ireland is 80x70mm, which fits standard Epson, NCR, IBM and Axiohm EPOS systems. If your terminal uses 76mm width, you'll need 76x70mm rolls instead. For credit card PDQ terminals, the standard is 57x40mm. Check your printer manual or spindle diameter to confirm—core size is usually 13mm. Call Discount Till Rolls on +353 (0)1 443 3964 and we'll identify the right size in under two minutes.
Are phenol-free receipt rolls available in Ireland?
Yes. Phenol-free thermal till rolls eliminate exposure to phenol and bisphenol compounds found in standard thermal paper. Discount Till Rolls stocks 80x70mm phenol-free rolls at €38.99 per box of 20, with free next-day delivery across Ireland. They're a direct drop-in replacement for standard thermal paper.
How do I check the correct till roll size for my EPOS terminal?
Open your till's paper compartment and measure the spindle diameter and the width the roll needs to fit (typically 80mm or 76mm). Most Irish retail terminals use 80x70mm rolls. Check your printer manual for the exact specification, or photograph the spindle and email it to Sales@discounttillrolls.ie—we'll confirm the right size and have stock dispatched same day if you order before 1pm.
What is the difference between thermal paper and standard receipt paper?
Thermal paper uses heat-sensitive coating to print without ink, ribbon or toner—making it faster and cheaper to run. Standard receipt paper typically requires dot-matrix or inkjet printing, which is slower and more expensive. Thermal paper is the industry standard for POS systems because it's reliable, cost-effective, and produces fade-resistant receipts. All Discount Till Rolls receipt paper is thermal-coated for direct compatibility with EPOS printers.
